Introduction

"There are more things in heaven and earth, Horatio,
Than are dreamt of in your philosophy"
Hamlet Act 1, scene 5, 159-167 by William Shakespeare
William Shakespeare knew some 400 years ago that what man knew was as nothing compared with what was still to be learned and, no matter how much we have advanced since then, his observation is still very true today.
One area we know so little about is the human mind. Yet we do not fully take advantage of one area of potentially powerful knowledge we have which is actually quite well documented and yet still not widely accepted: that is the realm of self-development and the principles of success.
Why do certain people seem to have it all? Why do some people have natural charisma, confidence and no money worries? Why do certain people seem to have control of their lives? Why do some people drive Rolls Royces and Ferraris and live in the best houses? They have employed the principles of success.
Yes, there are a fair few books, movies, websites and TV programmes on the subject and several excellent speakers doing the rounds. There is no doubt in my mind there are definite natural laws that can be employed to make the most of your life and the resources already available do a good job setting them out.
Many people have found success using this information and are motivated to improve their lives. I believe, however, that the majority of individuals have not connected, have not understood the power of the messages available. Look around you and you will notice that a lack of confidence, a lack of self-respect, a lack of control, selfishness, anger and frustration are all too common.
It is the aim of this blog to address this situation. Rather than teaching the principles from the standpoint of someone already successful, I will attempt to research the information and apply it to my - largely unsuccessful - life.
At the same time, it would be wonderful if other people could apply the principles to their own lives in parallel with me and submit comments with their own experiences and opinions. In this way I could address challenges not already covered and perhaps help others along the way. After all, I am not you.
Hmmm...that's enough of that. Let me introduce myself.
My name is Keith Braithwaite (I guess the website name gave that away). I live near the coast of central southern England. I am 48 years of age and am unmarried but have a wonderful girlfriend, Emma (say hello, Emm). I am fortunate to have both my parents nearby and a brother (and his family) a little distance away in the beautiful county of Devon, which is great for holidays. I have a small group of great friends - some I have known for many years. I work shift work seven days a week (with a day or week off here and there). As Martha and the Muffins sang, "The job is very boring, I'm an office clerk".
For some 18 years I have been involved in Network Marketing and, more significantly, self-development media. And yet I have never successfully applied this to my life. I want to find out why and how to reverse this.
Anyway, enough for the time being. If you want to know more about me, may I recommend you check out my MySpace profile at myspace.com/keithbravo?
I will post the first of what I hope will be weekly blogs on this self-development journey on the 1st February. I would love you to come along with me. I find it very exciting that we could end up way beyond what Horatio could have dreamed!
The first section will address that all-too powerful enemy - FEAR.
"Believe nothing, no matter where you read it, or who said it, no matter if I have said it, unless it agrees with your own reason and your own common sense."

With my very best wishes,
Keith Braithwaite
